Monday Movers: Taking Points at Pebble

Stock Up

D.A. Points -- If there's such a thing as a perfect week in golf, Points might have discovered it -- team up with legendary funny man Bill Murray for four rounds at Pebble Beach, capture the pro-am title, become a first-time winner on Tour and earn your first invite to the Masters. The key moment of the round was a hole out from 100 yards on the 14th for an eagle. I hope Murray went Carl Spackler on his partner after that shot -- something like, "Cinderella Story. Outta Nowhere. Trying to become champion. It's in the hole! It's in the hole!"

Getting Inside the Ropes -- PGA Tour rookie Jhonattan Vegas has been the story of the early season, and it's players like him that are breathing new life to the Tour. For those that enjoy Twitter, Vegas is one of the most interactive players in the game. This week @JhonattanVegas shared his invitation to the Masters with his followers. This guy is making all the right moves. We're talking about an invitation that even professional golfers dream about, and we all got a chance to share in the experience this week.

Alvaro Quiros -- The Dubai Desert Classic was billed as a battle of the top 3 players in the world, but the Spaniard stole the show in the desert. He ended with three straight 68s en route to a one-stroke victory, his fifth in five years on the European Tour. The win moves Quiros into first place in the Race to Dubai and jumps him to 21st in the world rankings, his highest ranking yet. Over the last five tournaments he's played, Quiros has four top 10s and a 23rd place finish. The 28-year-old seems to be hitting his prime and he's someone to keep your eye on this year.

John Daly -- One of the only reliables on Tour the last two decades is Daly's ability to attract a gallery. The reasons have shifted a little from his game and moved more toward his wardrobe, but fans still enjoy watching the two-time major champion. Daly will be giving people even more to watch soon after signing a deal with ProBagAds.com that will place a small monitor on his bag that will display rotating ads. While a little flashy for a conservative game, I'd expect a number of golfers to follow suit at some point. His main motivation for the change is likely the fact that he plans on watching television on it that he programs through a mobile phone.

Yani Tseng (right) -- The 22-year-old became the youngest player to reach the top of the women's golf rankings since they were officially introduced in 2006. Taiwan's Tseng reached the ranking after winning the Australian Ladies Masters by four strokes on Sunday. The three-time major winner doesn't plan on relinquishing the honor anytime soon, saying, "I don't want to be number one for one week or two weeks, I want to still be there at the end of the year."

Back to the Range

Robert Garrigus -- His week prematurely ended when high blood pressure caused him to withdraw prior to the final round of the AT&T. It was an unfortunate ending to an opportunity for a high finish. Garrigus was only five strokes out of the lead and sitting in a tie for 11th. His status for next week's Northern Trust Open is in question but he's still listed as a part of the field.

Tiger Woods -- He appeared to be on his way to making his debut in the Stock Up side of this feature after climbing to within one shot of the lead following the third round. Another final round littered with bogeys and inconsistent play dropped Woods to T20, seven strokes off the pace. His comment following the tournament summarizes his game over the past year, "There were quite a few positives this week, but a couple of glaring examples of what I need to work on." Adding to the frustration, Woods was fined by the European Tour on Monday for breaching the code of conduct. He spit near the hole on the 12th green after missing a par putt. I can't believe I would say this, but Woods needs a win as badly as anyone on Tour right now.

Jamie Lovemark -- If you would have told me a rookie would win on Tour before the month of February, Lovemark might have been the first guess. Last year's Nationwide money winner has a lot of potential but has struggled out of the gates. Through his first four starts, he had only made one cut before withdrawing from the AT&T after an opening round 81. His back seems to be the problem for his struggles, and it appears he'll forgo Riviera next week in order to reevaluate his condition. Lovemark tweeted that he's had "disc issues since October" but hopefully he can get healthy and salvage his first year.
