Mark KotsayMILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Brewers completed outfielder Mark Kotsay's $800,000 contract on Friday.

The 35-year-old Kotsay hit .239 with eight homers and 31 RBI last year in a limited role with the White Sox. The Brewers are primarily a right-handed hitting team in the starting lineup, but now have another left-handed option off the bench that is projected to include lefties Craig Counsell, Chris Dickerson and backup catcher George Kottaras.

Kotsay's deal includes a roster bonus and performance incentives that can push the contract's value to $1.25 million. Kotsay has a .279 career average with 121 homers and 663 RBI in a 14-year career that includes stops with six teams.

To add Kotsay to the 40-man roster, right-hander Roque Mercedes was designated for assignment.
