UFC Fight Night 24 Weigh-In Video

All 24 fighters stepping into the Octagon for Saturday's UFC Fight Night 24 will first step on the scale Friday for the Fight Night weigh-ins, and we'll carry the live video here at MMAFighting.com.

In the main event, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Phil Davis will have to make the light heavyweight limit of 206 pounds. The co-main event features Dan Hardy and Anthony Johnson, who will have to make the welterweight limit of 171 pounds. Johnson has had trouble making weight in the past, and he'll be fighting for the first time since 2009.

The weigh-in starts at 7 PM ET and is preceded by a Fight Club Q&A featuring Carlos Condit at 5 PM ET. The video is below.

Phil Davis Beats Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC Fight Night 24

In a battle of youth and athleticism against experience and technique, the youngster Phil Davis defeated the legendary Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 24.

But it wasn't easy.

Although Davis came into the fight as a heavy favorite and had been proclaimed by some as the man who would some day beat UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, Nogueira made life difficult for Davis in the early going, and the fight turned into a 15-minute, back-and-forth battle that was closer than the judges' scorecards -- all of which gave Davis the fight 30-27 -- would suggest.

"He's tough," Davis said of Nogueira afterward. "He's resilient."

In the first round Nogueira was particularly effective at shrugging off the takedown attempts from Davis, who was an NCAA champion wrestler at Penn State and is excellent at taking his opponents down and keeping them down. Davis had to be frustrated at the end of the first, even though all three judges gave it to him.

But midway through the second round something clicked for Davis, and he successfully employed a single-leg takedown to get Nogueira to the canvas. From there, Davis controlled the second round with ground and pound. And in the third round Davis again used a single-leg takedown effectively and was able to control Nogueira on the ground.

Davis improved his professional MMA record to 9-0 and showed off some of the athleticism and wrestling technique that makes him a great prospect for the UFC. But he also showed that he can't just waltz into the cage and dominate a legend. Nogueira gave him all he could handle.

USSF Development Academy weekend preview

As the arrival of spring looms, the schedule of the USSF Development Academy ramps up into overdrive. This weekend is going to be the busiest 2011 has seen so far, with 64 games are on the schedule.

Six of those teams heading into action are MLS Academies, and all but one faces the prospect of playing games on both days of the weekend.

Starting out west, Real Salt Lake stay at home, welcoming the Santa Cruz Breakers and De Anza Force.

San Jose also remain at home, playing first against Real So Cal, then hosting the Cosmos Academy West. The Quakes won?t be the only MLS Academy side to play against a Cosmos side, as D.C. United Academy lines up against Cosmos East on Saturday, before wrapping up the weekend against visiting Met Oval.

Also getting to play the role of host this weekend is the Revolution Academy. Making the trip up north to go up against New England is Potomac Academy and Baltimore Bays Chelsea.

Two MLS Academies will get to spend some time on the road, but it won?t be too far from home. The New York Red Bulls U-16s and U-18s matchup against Match Fit Chelsea and NJSA 04, while the youth derby of Ohio takes place on Saturday, when the Cleveland-based club Internationals hosts the Crew Academy.
